Desk Makeover

This desk was so much fun to redo.  Awhile back I purchased it at a flea-market store here in town (a place I visit often 🙂 I loved it right away because it was a corner desk and also because it was so solid. Made out of heavy wood (not particle board). It is actually very heavy. We’ve had it in our garage and I finally got to painting it. During the summer, I pushed it out into the lawn using a “truck” cart and then got to work. . . sanding, wiping it off (getting rid of all the spiders) . . . then finally painting.

I have been in sore need of an organized office/studio space. Slowly we have been transforming an upstairs room into our office space. We have had to put dry-wall up, and patch old drywall, paint, fix the flooring – plus, think about and keep an eye out for all the right furniture pieces. This desk is the start of it all finally coming together. It will be so nice to finally have a permanent space for all my paint, brushes, etc. Something I’ve never had. I have always had to set up on some table somewhere like in a kitchen or dining room then put everything away so that it was out of the way.

The spot we decided to use for this purpose is a small room at the top of our stairs. We have done a lot to this space, like I said, but I will save some of that story for a another post. A Before and After post of the whole room 🙂

This desk is where I will be blogging, checking email, posting new artwork and doing my Graphic Design work. I took apart my old crapy desk, here’s what that looked like . . .

and I hung it on the wall as shelving.

I tapped the wall, moved things out of the way and painted the brown parts black so the whole piece matches the desk.

Then I tapped the wall again and painted a turquoise section. Removed the tape and added a “Believe ” wall decal.

 Sorry a little blurry :/
Sorry a little blurry :/

This whole space is starting to come together. Can’t wait to share more in a separate post. There is still a lot to do. We just got done painting the floor. Also, My drawing/painting space is on the opposite wall of the desk. Just working on finishing some furniture for that, but, we have everything now and the whole room is coming together. I will be writing more and sharing pics of the whole room when it is finished. It has taken awhile, but soon I will finally have a real office/studio!!

It is much easier with some help. Yeah for babysitters! Once after working up there I came downstairs to find my little guy had flung cold ashes from our wood stove all over the floor:/ He was supposed to be watching a movie with his sister
