House Remodel

Upstairs Room

I will be sharing this month the last Before and After photos of our house remodel. Our remodeling projects have finally come to an end. It feels great to have a home set up exactly the way we need it. It has been a long process, but very rewarding hard work. I hope you have been inspired to tackle your home projects with DIY enthusiasm, getting some blisters and making your house your very own handmade home.

I have three rooms to show and the first I will share is the Upstairs Room. This room is a large space 15×11 Ft. When we bought the house it was decorated by a teen hippy. Peace signs and flower power. Yikes!

We used it for a long time as an attic, just holding boxes of things we had no idea where to put. With our decision to home-school, I decided it needed to be finished and used as our school room. I went through all those boxes, moving things out and around to free up the entire room for this new purpose and a new look. We spent time spreading drywall compound over cracks and blemishes on all the walls.

I had to paint, paint, paint. The existing drywall was in good shape but did need some patching and compound in some areas.Three coats to get rid of that yellow and the hippy tattoos.

Once again because our budget was so small I even painted the floor. I really do not mind at all painted floors. I was painting over laminate tiles that were stained and broken in spots. Totally changes the look for only $9.00 (discounted miss tint paint).

Note: when painting floors use heavy duty paint made for porches or concrete. If you are lucky you can get it discounted. Always check out your paint stores shelf of miss tints.

We are really enjoying this space now. It is so nice to finally have it functioning as a useful room. Because the ceiling has a steep slant (common in old homes) we placed a sofa and toys (seated activities) against the short walls. Here are a few more pictures:
