Paint with Me! – Floral Card Design

Hey, friends, in this video post we are painting a floral card design. This simple design really is about using a shape to define your area of painting and then filling in that shape with florals. I chose three different florals to use and a color pallet of pinks, purples, and brown. First let go over the supplies you will need for this project:

Supply List

Watercolor Paper. I am using Bee Watercolor Paper from Bee Watercolor Paper Company.

Watercolor paints. I am using Grumbacher Academy Watercolors from the tubes.

Jar of Water

Round brush size 6

Paper towel

Grumbacher Colors

Chinese White

Ivory Black

Mauve

Alizarine Crimson

Yellow Ochre

First lightly sketch a circle. Next, begin painting your largest flower first. Place it inside of the circle spread evenly throughout. Remember not to paint past the sketched boundary of the circle. I used Mauve to paint a 4 petal flower. Sometimes I added a petal or two! It doesn’t really matter. The important thing is that all these large purple flowers are similar in size. When the flowers are the same size and petals have similar shape that is what really makes it seem like the same repeated flower.

Next, using some Alizarin Crimson and Chinese white I painted some tiny pink flowers with a drop of Alizarin Crimson in the center for a stamen. Place these little pink flowers evenly across the circle, again remember not to paint past the pencil line!

Then using some yellow ochre paint I painted leaves across the circle and again remember to not paint past the pencil!

Lastly, I added a black stamen to the center of each purple flower. I began with the yellow ochre (see video below) but decided to use black because I wanted a greater contrast. I think using dark purple or gray or chocolate brown would be really pretty as well.

This floral design would make a great card design! Add a handwritten message underneath and paste to the front of a blank card. I hope you give this project a try. Happy painting!
