Paint with Me! – Holiday Art
It is the holiday season and we are so excited here at my house! Shopping, baking, decorating is all happening and happening now. We so enjoy the twinkling lights and holiday cheer! Holiday painting and crafting are a must and this year I came up with this cute Christmas tree design that is easy to paint with watercolor. This design would look great on a card or tag or framed for holiday wall decor. Let’s go over the supplies:
Supply list
Watercolor Paper
Watercolor paint. I’m using Grumbacher watercolors (sold in tubes).
Jar of water
Paper towel
Pointed Round paintbrush in size six.
Grumbacher colors
Burnt Umber
Lemon yellow
Alizarin Crimson
Sap Green
Hookers Green Dark
If you can paint triangles you can paint this Christmas tree!
Step 1. Start with Hookers Green and make a series of triangles stacked and crisscrossing each other. Keep in mind the shape of your tree that you are making as you go. For a fat tree make wider triangles and for skinny trees make narrow triangles. Make sure that the corners of some of your triangles stick out to the side so as to look like staggering branches. You could use any colors you like. I chose Sap Green, Hookers Green Dark, and Alizarin Crimson.
Step 2. Make some ornaments on your tree and a tree stand to hold the tree on the page.
Step 3. Using a wet brush filled with paint, tap it with your finger to do some splattering. You can always add some bigger splotches and dots as well with the tip of your brush.
Step 4. Lastly, a star at the top of the tree painted by simply crossing some lines finishes this design. I used Burnt Umber mixed with Lemon Yellow to get a golden brown.
I hope you give this project a try! You can play around with different colors of course. Other color schemes such as Navy Blue, Light blue, and red would be nice. Or how about a peachy orange with burgundy red and pink for a coastal Christmas vibe.
Happy Painting Friends and Happy Holidays!
